Maintaining and Preserving

Cockling and Rippling in paper art is a normal consequence of  changes in relative humidity and can be expected even with the best of hinges. If cockling is observed, owners should remove to a drier environment.

Fading of Art should be monitored. These sorts of changes may not be visible to most observers until some part of the art which has been over matted is exposed.

Recommenndations to Customers: Art works, particularly original or art work of value, should be unframed at four to six year intervals for examination.

The concept of such preservative maintenance does not imply that the technique of framing is defective.

Techniques and materials continue to improve at such a rate that works framed five years ago will benefit from advances which have occurred since.
