
Omowale Stewart
Born in Barbados on 21/04/1950
Twin brother of Sundiata
EDUCATION:
BSc. Political Science- University of the West Indies
As a self-taught artist and founding member of the People’s Art Movement in Barbados during the 1970’s, he was instrumental in bringing art to the public through outdoor exhibitions and demonstrations.
Omowale is known for his skill with charcoal, pastels and acrylic. The human form dominates his works, especially the Caribbean woman.
“Using art as a vehicle for spiritual, artistic and cultural linkages” is his main objective.
Omowale has exhibited throughout the Caribbean, Europe and the Americas.
Omowale and his twin brother grew up in Trinidad and although he resides in Barbados, Trinidad is still Omowale’s spiritual home. He visits regularly to reunite with one of his main sources of inspiration- Trinidad.
